Carrigaline Community School ‘Masterchef’

Carrigaline Community School ‘Masterchef’

The culinary talents of ten students were put on display as they took part in the Carrigaline Community School ‘Masterchef’ competition recently, with some exceptional dishes being prepared and put on display.
The students, from first to sixth year, started preparing their healthy main course dishes at around 9am and had well over an hour and a half to prepare and present a dish of their choice before three judges who then marked them on presentation, taste, skill and timing, and the health value of the dish. Judges also asked participants many questions on their dish, their ingredients and inspiration.
Amongst the dishes cooked up were Vegan spinach Burgers, spicy rice with chicken, salmon and chicken teriyaki dishes to mention a few. The dishes were served up to the judges, Vice Principal Sinead Tarrant, with Christine Dempsey and Eddie O’Rourke. As usual, they had a particularly difficult task in choosing the winners, but settled on 3rd year student Sean Neville who took the title of CCS Masterchef 2017, cooking pan-seared tuna steak, with roasted yellow pepper, pomegranate, quinoa and couscous pesto salad.
In 2nd place, with roast stuffed pumpkin, was Dawid Soczawa (2nd Year), while Lucy Griffin (1st Year) came 3rd with teriyaki salmon and wild rice.
Other Masterchefs taking part n the competition were Simon Aregui Fernandez, Meabh Lonergan, Elizabeth O’Leary, Eve Lonergan, Laoise Kelly, Jennifer Ryan and last year’s winner Sienna Bosonnet who were congratulated on their exceptional cooking skills.
