Scheme to Improve Ferney Road, Carrigaline Approved

Scheme to Improve Ferney Road, Carrigaline Approved
Writes Leo McMahon

Improvement of Ferney Road, Kilnagleary, Carrigaline was given the go-ahead at a recent meeting of Cork County Council.
The scheme will include new footpaths to ensure continuity for pedestrians along the L6506 road, uncontrolled raised pedestrian crossings and build-out paving junctions to slow traffic, new boundary walls where required, a new road surface water drainage system and new LED public lighting.
Major new (e.g. Forest Hill) as well as existing housing developments plus new schools have been built in the area in recent years and the Council recently gave the go-ahead for the first phase of 49 social housing units at Kilnagleary so upgrading of Ferney Road, an important link on the southern eastern side of the town running parallel to Crosshaven Road is seen as very necessary.
Three submissions were received and referred to in the ‘Part 8’ manager’s report which forms part of the council’s own planning process which were responded to and the scheme was recommended.
Members of Bandon-Kinsale Muncipal District at their recent meeting supported the proposal. They were told the project would cost around €600,000 plus VAT and it was hoped to commence in 2019.
Based on the report, the project was unanimously approved by at the County Council meeting.
