Local Groups Benefit From Community Grant Support

A huge number of local community groups have been awarded grant assistance from Cork County Council from this year’s fund. The list of recipients and their corresponding allocations were announced on Monday afternoon at a meeting between Carrigaline Municipal District Councillors and Council Officials.

One of the beneficiaries was Crosshaven GAA

Funding was awarded under three different schemes; Community Contract, Capital Fund and Amenity Fund. Executive Officer, Noelle Desmond, commented on the 2020 grants at the Carrigaline Municipal District Meeting which was held immediately after the community funding discussions. She observed that over €180,000 had been allocated for groups and clubs in the MD area, noting that many of the applications across the locality had been really well put together and as a result the Council looked favourably on the vast majority of the requests for funding.

Responding to the 2020 allocation at the MD was Chairperson for the District, Councillor Seamus McGrath, who thanked the Council executive for granting so many applications, going on to say, “I think many groups will be very satisfied with the outcome. It is worth noting in terms of the last few months with pressures on budgets and so on that this money has been ringfenced and kept for communities. We know communities put it to good use, it’s very important money for volunteers across the county and the municipal district so well done to the Executive for distributing it in as fair a manner as possible.”

One happy recipient of their allocation was the Myrtleville Swimmers, with group member Damian O’Neill saying, “Today we got news that €2,000 had been allocated to Myrtleville Swimmers for the buoys. Thanks to any councillors who supported this. We will now be able to fund the buoys and maintenance for the foreseeable future, without having to ask for donations again.”
