Contract Signed For 49 Houses In Kilnagleary, Carrigaline
Deputy Mayor Ian Doyle together with Chief Executive of Cork County Council Tim Lucey have signed contracts with Cormac Smith of MMD Construction (Cork) Ltd for the construction of 49 residential units in a mix of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom two storey houses on a greenfield site at Kilnagleary, Carrigaline.
Costing €9.2m, the scheme forms part of the Council’s Social Housing Capital Programme through which 570 additional units of social housing will be made available in 2018 and over 3,000 dwellings by 2021.
The Kilnagleary housing scheme has been conceived as an outward looking scheme, facing onto existing boundaries, each of which has a public activity, including public roads, schools, a tennis club and a GAA pitch.
The layout is made up of three distinct clusters, each arranged in a pinwheel formation, consisting of terraces of houses. The pinwheel form is emphasised and characterised by the four gables of each cluster. The terraces are limited in size such that the scheme achieves a sense of scale, providing a sense of community and unity of place.
Speaking at the signing Deputy Mayor Doyle complemented Cork County Council’s ambitious housing construction programme noting, “The Kilnagleary development will provide much needed social housing in areas of high demand. This is indicative of the great progress being made in the delivery of high quality housing, in requested areas, to the highest of design standards”
Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Tim Lucey went on to say, “As a Council we have an ambitious construction programme in place that will meet the targets set in Rebuilding Ireland.
The Kilnagleary development is the latest in number of schemes that will be progressed this year. Construction is already underway on a project in Macroom and developments will shortly commence in Cloyne, Kanturk and Blarney.”
