Cork South Central TD, Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire has said, “I have had it confirmed by Cushman and Wakefield that the Dock site at Passage West is up for Sale. I will be writing to Cork County Council to ask them to purchase this site, using funds from the European Investment Bank if required, and to ensure that the town gets the kind of development it needs.”
The issue of the lack of development with the site has held back Passage West for many years and there is a strong desire locally for the site to be re-developed in a way that will benefit the area.
Ó Laoghaire continued, “Passage is a town with enormous potential, but it needs the right investment and development to allow that to happen.”
“This is a landmark site, and we need vision to deliver a positive outcome for the future of the town”.
The site, which is approx 8 Acres in size, including 6 terraced houses, is of crucial importance because of it’s key strategic location in the town, and because of the sheer scale of the site. It’s location between the main street and the water, means that a well planned development could hugely benefit the town in terms of it’s appearance, and in terms of bringing commerce right back in to the middle of the town.
