Commissioner Commends Belgooly Student Writes J.J Hurley
First-year Bandon Grammar student, Charlie O’Callaghan, received a special commendation from Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan, after she reviewed his recent entry in the Young Scientist Exhibition at Farmleigh House in the Phoenix Park on Friday last. The project was aimed at reducing the speed of motorists passing through Belgooly with the aid of social media. Indeed, some of his findings were alarming, recording figures of 80% plus non-compliance with the current speeding restrictions in the South County village. Describing his project as an important piece of research, the commissioner expressed a particular interest in the social media aspect of the project, which could have a wider application to address the issue of speeding. Also displaying her project to the commissioner was Lily Fitzgerald from Kinsale Community School, who carried out a social and behavioural project on the whistleblower controversy.
