Crosshaven Road Race – Wednesday 26th April

Details of the forthcoming Scoil Bhride NS fundraising road race were announced in the school in Crosshaven recently, with this year’s event scheduled to take place on Wednesday 26th April with the first of three races commencing at 6.45pm sharp. There have been a few changes in the format compared to the last few years when the race was known as the Scoil Bhride 8km Road Race. Firstly there are three separate races – a 5 km, 10 km and a junior 1 mile race and secondly the route will start at Centra Supermarket along Strand Road and will go as far as Leary’s Cross along the main Crosshaven Carrigaline Road and back for the longer route. Funds for the 5 and 10km races will go towards Scoil Bhride NS in Crosshaven, while the 1 mile race for youngsters from junior infants up to sixth will go towards the ‘Bumbulance’ Ambulance Service who will have one of their ambulances on show during the evening. The children’s race will start the evening’s proceedings with a one-mile route from the Point Road to approximately the Yacht Club and back. Races will be determined by classes rather than ages and is open from junior infants to sixth class, with the infants classes and first years runners, who must be accompanied by a runner aged 16 or over. School Principal Seamus O’Connor remarked that the main route from Centra to Rabbit Island or Leary’s Cross is ‘Flat and Furious,’ suiting runners who would prefer a straight and flat route and would be a ‘perfect novice race for those looking for personal best times’. The main race will commence at 7.30pm sharp, followed by the shorter 5km race starting seven minutes later at 7.37pm. Entry fee is €15 for the 10km race and €10 for the 5km race (€20 and €15 respectively on the night) while the fee for the mile race for the youngsters is €10 which includes a ‘Bumbulance’ tee shirt.
