Crosshaven Rugby Football Club Celebrate 50 Years

Honoured with Southside & District Sports Awards

The October recipient of the Southside & District Sports Awards is Crosshaven Rugby Football Club. The awards scheme is sponsored by Clancy’s Bar & Restaurant, Gerald McCarthy Gifts & Awards and Media Partners, The Carrigdhoun Newspaper.

Founded in 1972, Crosshaven Rugby Football Club has grown from strength to strength in the half-century since, and enjoyed a wonderful celebration of their 50th Anniversary in September 2022.

The club now has a thriving adult and juvenile section, with a wonderful flood-lit main-pitch, a training pitch, separate training areas, a gym, changing rooms and a great club bar and clubhouse.

The recent gathering of members, friends and the local community at the Club’s 50th Anniversary Legends Match, was a brilliant showcase of the club’s development and growth over the years. It was a hugely popular event and the weather even played ball on the day, with sunshine throughout.

Many former Munster & Irish Rugby legends played a Crosshaven selection of legends on the day and a great exhibition of rugby was enjoyed by all.

Crosshaven RFC has had many a great day on the field of play over the years, winning several crunch ties - including the crowning glory of the All Ireland Junior Cup in 2011- when the club beat Galway side, Monivea RFC on a sunny April day in Dublin.

In its 50 years, Crosshaven has produced many great players and have had many more associated with the club, including a current International Referee and former Munster & Connacht star, Frank Murphy.

Overall this has been a fantastic 50 years for Crosshaven RFC and we are all looking forward to many more successful years ahead.
