Gaelcholáiste Charraig Uí Leighin Are County Champions
Writes Donnchadh Ó Cróinín
Bhí ócáid stairiúil i nGaelcholáiste ar an Déardaoin nuair a bhuaigh an foireann Iománaíochta Cluiche Cheannais an Chontae don chéad uair riamh. History was created in Gaelcholaiste Charraig Uí Leighin on Thursday last when the U-16 Hurling team won the Cork Colleges Under 16 Hurling Championship for the first time ever, with a 2-8 to 1-2 victory over St. Fanahan’s College, Mitchelstown. Gaelcholáiste Charraig Uí Leighin led from the second minute to the final whistle, and with Finn Ó Conaill and Donnacha Ó Deasúnaigh showing well in the forwards, the result of this game was never in doubt. In defence, Ciarán Ó Cionnaith, Ross Ó Cionnaolaidh, Fionn Ó Deasúnaigh and Chris Ó hIarlaithe provided excellent cover, and with Eoghan de Lóndra and Callum de Baróid dominating midfield, it meant that Gaelcholaiste Charraig Uí Leighin’s forward line received a strong supply of possession. This was a terrific victory for the school, as it was only their second year competing at Under-16 level, and augurs well for the future years, as they progress to the Senior College’s Competition.
Comhghairdeas libh a bhuachaillí.
