Kinsale School Is The Recipient Of A Generous Donation
Writes JJ Hurley
A donation by two residents of the town, Murray Clark and Mark Carter, of a Suzuki ‘boudoir’ grand piano – slightly smaller than a baby grand- to Kinsale Community School can only be described as a very generous philanthropic gesture.
Certainly, the recent acquisition to the school’s arsenal of musical instruments will be welcomed by both the teachers and pupils, who have had to “make do” with a piano that has probably passed its sell-by date.
Having moved to the Kinsale a number of years ago, following a chance discovery of the historical town, as they searched for a suitable property in the West Cork area, their business commitments have now forced them to relocate closer to the continent.
However, having developed a deep attachment to Kinsale, they decided to make the gesture as a little thank you to a town which they have been delighted to call home.
Having sold their current property in the town, they are not ruling out making a return at some point in the future.
In response to the recent donation of the piano, Ms. Kathleen O’Brien, who is the school’s vice-principal said: “We are delighted with the generous donation by Murray Clark and Mark Carter of a digital baby grand piano to the school. It will take pride of place in Ms. Bríd Kearney’s music room near the reception of our state of the art new building this September. Ms. Kearney is looking forward to using it to further develop and enhance the musical talent of the pupils. We are most grateful for the generosity and community spirit demonstrated by the donor.”
