No Signs For Owenabue Car Park In Carrigaline
Writes Leo McMahon
Signposting is needed at both ends of Main Street, Carrigaline to make drivers aware of Owenabue car park in the town centre, said Cllr Seamus McGrath (FF) at the monthly meeting of Cork County Council’s Carrigaline-Ballincollig Municipal District.
He had a motion requesting this along with re-painting of road markings in the main thoroughfare, especially disabled parking spots and loading bays.
‘This is something a number of business people and residents have raised with me. Some of the markings are quite faded and there are some who don’t obey the parking laws so we need to make these clear,’ said Cllr McGrath.
He also pointed out that there were no directional signs for the Owenabue car park. This was important, especially for visitors because one would struggle to be parking along Main Street itself, he added.
Cllr Eoghan Jeffers (SF) spoke in support. Senior executive engineer Madeleine Healy noted the request and said markings could be refreshed when weather permitted.
Ms Healy thanked councillors for their co-operation regarding the notice for installing a ramp outside the school at Ballea Road, Carrigaline.
A sign at the pedestrian gateway to Carrigaline playground was requested by Cllr McGrath who was assured by the engineer that there were two signs up at the vehicular entrance and on a pole as one entered the park.
Rolled grass, said Cllr McGrath, was needed over the earth around the skateboard park which was officially opened recently by Cathaoirleach Joe Harris (SD). A surfaced path was also needed coming from Bothar Guidel across from the car park.
Cllr McGrath asked that the senior engineer from traffic and transportation section be invited to the next meeting to update members on various Carrigaline traffic issues highlighted at a previous meeting.
