Twelve years ago two enterprising residents of Tracton Parish, Val Dempsey and Micheal O’Sullivan, decided to hold a vintage festival in Roberts Cove to raise funds for the then restoration of Old Knocknamanagh School House, expecting a turnout of possibly 500 visitors the figures on the day far exceeded those numbers. Indeed, since the inaugural festival, the numbers have increased incrementally each year to now make it one of the largest vintage festivals in Cork.

The Festival is now firmly established within the Vintage scene and its location right on the edge of the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean is unrivalled. The site has a 180 degree view of the Atlantic Ocean where you will be able to see from Roches Point to the Old Head of Kinsale and beyond. The festival is certainly one of the most picturesque in the country, with the helicopter trips at the annual festival giving a bird’s eye view of the area.

Taking place on the Sunday of the August Bank Holiday weekend, the festival will get underway at 11am, with a vintage tractor run departing Roberts Cove and vintage car run leaving Belgooly GAA pitch, also at 11am.

Returning to the festival field the participants in both runs will be joined by what is expected to be a large crowd, on hand to view the many attractions, including the tractor pulling events, this year featuring tractors of up to 700hp from Carlow and Waterford, organised by the Southern Ireland Tractor Pulling club.

There will also be Trial Star motorbike stunts from Dublin, sure to thrill the crowd, along with a fantastic collection of vintage tractors, cars, old time farm machinery from Carrigaline Men’s Shed and a wide variety of trade stalls, tasting and food stalls, a funfair, Archery Display, amusements and free children’s activities. There is truly something for all family members.

Parents from Knocknamanagh National School, Rennies National School, Nohoval, Templebreedy National School, Crosshaven and Tracton Community Playgroup will be on hand with bric-a-brac stalls and a cake sale, while the Tracton Defribillator Group will be giving a CPR display. There will also be a display from Kinsale Macra

As well as a whole host of stalls, the traditional threshing will also take place, stirring the memory of a certain generation of a previous time, featuring traditional steam engines and the sheep shearing demonstration is sure to pull in the crowds.
