Local councillors approved the proposal and the intention to proceed will be published shortly, with a view to the implementation of the bye-laws from around September. The Carrigaline list of areas affected includes 3 blocks: 1) Around the Boys and Girls Schools on the Ballea Road – Glenwood, Weston Park, Weston View, Sunset Court, Owenabue Heights, Willowbank and Highfields. 2) All of Bridgemount and Waterpark 3) Mount Rivers Estate In Crosshaven, the introduction of the bye-laws will be seen in Drakes Point and Brightwater. Welcoming the plans, Cllr Seamus McGrath said, “This is welcome progress towards improving safety in estates. I had a motion before the Council meeting on this issue earlier this year and I’m pleased that the Council intend to publish the pilot list of estates shortly. This move will send out a clear message of the need to reduce speed in residential areas. I’m sure other estates will also want to be included and I am hoping that the Council will continue to roll out this special speed limit of 30kmph as soon as possible. The most common issue raised with me by residents in estates is excessive speed. This move in itself is by no means the full solution, however I believe it is a significant step forward in the battle to improve safety within estates. ”
