Ballygarvan 1-09
Carrigaline 1-07
Ballygarvan saw off a late Carrigaline charge to take all three points in round two of the SE Junior A Football League at Ballygarvan on Saturday last.
Late drama saw Carrigaline force a sensational comeback following a penalty from Tim Cronin's boot, but Ballygarvan remained steadfast and took the all-important points.
Carrigaline had opened the scoring with an Eoghan Lander's point in the first minute. There was a six- minute interval before Ballygarvan replied with their first score from Ray O'Halloran. A Tim Cronin free for Carrig was added to on nine minutes as Ciaran Kearney added a point to leave the visitors out in front by 3 points to 1. An excellent score by Daniel Mackey had just the minimum between the sides.
Ballygarvan looked like they were about to take control of the tie following a Cormac Ryan black card, but Carrigaline held on until three consecutive points from Ray O'Halloran, Dylan O'Connor, and Shane Buckley, had the home side leading by 5 points to 4 at the interval.
Early in the second half, the decisive score in the game arrived as Calum Mackey drove the ball to the back of the Carrig net.
Carrigaline looked like they had hit back immediately when a Tomas Foley free ended up in the net, but the referee ruled it a square goal.
A brace of points on the bounce from Calum Mackey, and Piarias O' Hallorhan had the score at 1-07 to 0-04, before Sam Horan scored the visitors first point of the second half on 53 minutes.
Swapping a point-a-piece between Daniel Mackey and Cormac Ryan before Tim Cronin looked like blasting this tie wide open with a goal and point to leave the scores at 1-08 to 1-07.
However, any hope of a late Carrigaline salvation vanished with a Ger lynch point.
