Carrigaline Sports Partnership are hosting a one-day basketball tournament on Sunday April 27th, as they look to shoot one point closer to the development of a dedicated, multi-use Carrigaline Community Sports Campus.
The event, organised in association with the Filipino basketball community, will take place in Neptune Stadium, and will bring teams across the country together in what is destined to be an unforgettable day.
The lack of community driven sports campus in Carrigaline has been an issue in the town for a number of years, but an initiative spearheaded by Carrigaline Rugby Club and Athletics Club a solution is in the works.
Their initiative has since grown into a collaborative effort now backed by several local clubs and organisations, including Carrigaline United AFC, Carrigaline Basketball Club, Sundays Well Swimming Club, the Owenabue Special Olympics Club, and the Order of Malta. Together, these groups are working to deliver a campus that will support everything from athletics and swimming to soccer, rugby, basketball, and key community services.
The event has been made possible thanks to the generosity of Neptune Basketball Club, who are providing their stadium for the day. There will be games, raffles, and a family-friendly cake sale - all contributing to the fundraising effort.
The Carrigaline Sports Partnership has already achieved early milestones, including a pre-feasibility study backed by Cork County Council. Local representatives Jack White and Seamus McGrath have played a key role in progressing the project, which aims to secure state and local support by demonstrating the benefits of a shared-use model - one proven successful in towns and cities across Ireland.
Whether you’re a sports fan or just someone who believes in the power of community, all are encouraged to attend on April 27th. Every euro raised brings Carrigaline one step closer to a campus that reflects community, co-operation and inclusion
