Additional public lighting at Ardcarraig estate, Carrigaline was requested by Cllr. Patrick Donovan (FF) and supported at the monthly meeting of the county council’s Carrigaline Municipal District.

In particular, he asked for the lighting behind properties 3 to 10 saying the area was very dark when he went up there. Cllr. Audrey Buckley (FF) seconded. The area in question is on the entrance road to Ardcarraig where there is significant gap between two existing street lights.

Replying to Cllr Donovan’s motion, acting senior executive engineer Alan Cogan replied that his request would be referred to the council’s public lighting section for assessment and comment.

In another motion, Cllr Donovan requested that the section of the R612 from the Lidl roundabout to the entrance of the council’s Kilnagleary Industrial Park, Carrigaline be included in the 2025 roads resurfacing programme. Cllr. Jack White (FG) seconded.

Reporting back, the engineer said: ‘Works as part of the rollout of Carrigaline Transportation and Public Realm Enhancement Plan (TPREP) would conflict with this proposal. It is intended to continue undertaking improvement works heading west from O’Leary’s Cross along the R612. The scale of works to be undertaken will be dependent on funding allocations. Councillors will be updated on a works programme once allocations have been received’.

Mr Cogan added that were the council to resurface the section of road referred to by Cllr Donovan, it could well have to be subsequently dug up as part of TPREP.

Cllr White however, said he wished to know the timelines for Carrigaline TPREP because in the meantime there were complaints from the public about the section of road referred to by Cllr Donovan. It might still require short term works. The engineer, who said he walked it regularly, said the area office would keep an eye on it but he still preferred awaiting the go-ahead for the TPREP contract.

Speeding on the Carrigaline-Crosshaven road between the GAA Club and the entrance to the Greenway car park (Lulu’s Cafe) was highlighted by Cllr White. He suggested a digital speed feedback sign. This would be considered, the engineer replied.

Ballinrea Cross, Carrigaline continued to be a deep concern, he continued and urged that interim measures be expedited ahead of a proposed roundabout. Mr Cogan said an order had gone in for ‘substantial’ digital speed feedback signs there and he was due to meet with the senior engineer about other interim works.  Surveys had been carried out by the Roads Design Office.

On a proposal by Cllr White, congratulations was extended to Carrigaline Irish Farmers’ Association branch which recently celebrated its 70th anniversary.  An cathaoirleah Cllr. Ben Dalton-O’Sullivan (Ind) seconded.

Cllr White requested that footpath improvement works that had been on the 2024 programme for Ardmore Estate, Passage West and Ardcarraig, Carrigaline be prioritised for this year.
