CARRIGALINE ATHLETICS CLUB IS HONOURED FOR ITS COMMITMENT TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

Carrigaline Athletics Club has been honoured for its dedication to supporting adults with mixed abilities and helping them with a range of goals from completing their first 5K to running a marathon. The club has been awarded a Community Spirit Award, which is sponsored by the Cork International Hotel and The Carrighoun.


Carrigaline AC is the 8th largest club in county Cork with 317 members - 183 adults and 134 juveniles. The club was set up in May 2012 and is run entirely by volunteers.


The juvenile club has won county medals and represented Carrigaline at Nationals.

The volunteers help promote physical health, mental health by offering a supportive environment to help reduce stress and anxiety, and offers structured training for all levels and abilities.


The club also focuses on personal development with goal setting and building self-esteem while older and more experienced athletes act as role models for younger members.


The community of Carrigaline and surrounding areas benefits from the many race events organised by the club including the monthly Run The Line on the Carrigaline to Crosshaven Greenway.


General Manager of the Cork International Hotel, Eoghan Murphy said: “The Carrigaline AC is a fantastic example of how volunteer dedication and hard work can result in a successful club that benefits both members and the wider community. It is great to see children and adults achieving success through the efforts of these volunteers who give of their time every week to help others reach their goals.”


The judging panel for the Community Spirit Awards is made up of a mixture of representatives from the public and private sector within the community.
