Carrigaline First Responders have been selected as the third ‘Cork International Hotel Community Spirit Award’ monthly winner of 2022.
The volunteer service operates a 24 hour response in the community which is available 7 days per week and 365 days a year. They respond to cardiac arrest, choking, chest pain and stroke casualties, providing essential first aid until emergency services are on scene.
General manager of the Cork International Hotel, Eoghan Murphy said – “Everyone involved is a volunteer which is truly wonderful and pre covid they trained once a month. They now predominately train online and have had extensive back on call training with the national ambulance service. When they were off call during the height of the pandemic, the First Responders, along with the Lions club, ran a service collecting shopping and prescriptions for those cocooning, which was a wonderful service within the community”.
The Cork International Hotel Community Spirit Awards are sponsored by The Carrigdhoun Newspaper and Gerald McCarthy Giftware.
The judging panel for the Community Spirit Awards are comprised of a mixture of representatives from the public and private sector within the community.
The judging panel for this award was; Carmel Lonergan Group Director of Operations, Trigon Hotels, Nicola Radley Senior Executive Officer, Municipal District Operations & Rural Development at Cork County Council, Aisling Killilea Bank of Ireland Manager, Carrigaline and Douglas, Vincent O'Donovan and Jack White, The Carrigdhoun Newspaper
