Carrigaline & Kinsale Win Tidy Towns Gold Medals Writes Barry Cogan & Jack White

The great efforts of the Carrigaline Tidy Towns committee with great support from the many volunteers, the residents’ associations and the public at large were rewarded with a first coveted Gold Medal at the national Tidy Towns awards in the Helix in Dublin on this Monday September 25th. Kinsale was also among the winners, claiming another richly deserved gold medal.

Eight members of the Carrigaline Tidy Towns committee travelled up for the event and were really pleased that their efforts were rewarded. Carrigaline won the Overall Clean Air competitions and were winners in the County Pollination competition. The committee who were out on Sunday morning cleaning the Main Street spent the journey home from Dublin planning further innovations and improvements in Carrigaline in the year ahead.

The news received a hugely warm response locally with several hundreds expressing their gratitude to the committee on social media including Michael McGrath TD who said, “Great news! Huge congratulations to all involved in Carrigaline Tidy Towns on achieving the Gold Medal!” Minister Simon Coveney TD also welcomed the news saying, “Really great news for Carrigaline. Congratulations to all involved, especially to the Tidy Towns Committee”.

Sponsors of Carrigaline Tidy Towns, Barry Collin’s SuperValu said on their facebook page, “Congratulations to the Carrigaline Tidy Towns team for such a fabulous achievement”
