Carrigaline Lady Wins Northside And District Sports Awards

The First Winner Of The 2022 Northside And District Sports Awards, sponsored By Murray Browne Auctioneers and Valuers Is Ms Casey Grace Of The Address UCC Glanmire Ladies Basketball Team, Who Recently Won The National Cup.

Carrigaline native Casey Grace joined Glanmire Basketball Club when she was 15 and won U18 and U20 national cups. However, it wasn’t until she returned home from playing college basketball in the states in 2014 that Casey started to play with the Super League team.

In her first year back, Glanmire won the National Cup and went on to win four cups in a row. In 2018, Glanmire lost in the final and missed out on what would have been five in a row.

The team were all delighted to finally be back in Tallaght this year with a chance of securing another National Cup trophy for Glanmire. This is Casey’s 5th Super League National Cup gold medal to date.

Casey Grace has been an outstanding talent with The Address UCC Glanmire for many years and has been selected as the January Northside & District Sports Award winner due to her contribution to Glanmire’s Paudie O’Connor Women’s National Cup Title win.

Coached for many years by Mark Scannell, they were inspirational in their recent victory over their opponents DCU Mercy coached by Mark Ingle.

The Glanmire side came back to outscore their opponents in the third and fourth quarters in an epic final at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght Dublin, with Captain Áine McKenna showing the way, along with MVP Player Claire Melia and American stars Carrie Shepherd and Tierney Pfirman. The Address UCC Glanmire team snatched victory in the last quarter, capturing the title in an epic final.
