Relief At News On Relief Road Writes Jack White County Mayor, Cllr Seamus McGrath has welcomed the news saying, “This is the most significant progress on the Carrigaline Relief Road since 2010, when there was a commitment made to land acquisition. The confirmation from County Council that this is moving to the Detailed-Design phase is most welcome, it is a big step forward and will bring the project to being ‘shovel ready’ and hence make the application for funding far more accessible”. Once the project becomes shovel ready, Council can either borrow the funds to complete the infrastructural project or can apply for funding from a designated €200million Infrastructure Fund set up by government. Initial planning was granted through the Part 8 Process for the original outline of the route and that may still suffice, however, during the Detailed-Design process a decision may be made to seek further planning. Cllr McGrath continued, “I’m delighted to see this progress. It is an issue on which I’ve been pushing for a solution for years and only a few weeks ago before becoming County Mayor, I highlighted it as a priority”. Council will now initiate a tendering process before contracting a designer to begin work.
