Carrigaline Tennis Club Summer Open Competition

Writes Ann Bogan PRO

Carrigaline Tennis Club is delighted to be able to hold its annual Summer Open Doubles Competition, having had to cancel it in 2020 due to Covid restrictions. Play runs from Wednesday June 23rd and the finals will take place on Saturday 3rd July.

There is a full entry of 220 pairings, made up of 350 individuals, competing in ladies’ doubles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles. Clubs from all around Cork are represented and all grades from 1-6 are catered for. It’s great to see a strong entry in Grade 1, the top grade, and a high standard of tennis is anticipated.

Our main sponsor for this year's Open Competition is Astra Construction Services Ltd. MD Stephen McCarthy very generously presented a cheque recently to Chairperson Eddie Pierce and Alan Kelly Club Captain which will be a great help with the running of the competition.

Stephen is an avid sports fan and has long been a supporter of Carrigaline Tennis Club, as well as enjoying playing tennis. He is currently overseeing the development of the A rated Janeville housing project, with Phase 1 of 300 houses close to completion. Phase 2 of 200 houses is getting underway, and the overall project will provide high quality houses for the people of Cork and Carrigaline for years to come.

Club Captain, Alan Kelly, with the help of the Tournament Committee, has been putting in tremendous work over the last while in organising the event and their efforts are much appreciated. The Covid Committee will be overseeing health and safety and it will not be possible to have spectators present for this event due to Covid restrictions.

With the return of competitive tennis, Carrigaline will be the first Club Open Competition to be held in Cork in 2021 and we wish all players the best of luck and enjoyment over the 10 days of the event.
