Carrigdhoun Players On All-Ireland Winning Team
Writes Bernard Ahern
Cork are the All-Ireland Minor Camogie Champions for the very first time, with no less than eight players on the team from the Carrigdhoun region.
Since the Minor Championship was reconfigured U18 in 2006 Cork had failed to win this competition.
In the All-Ireland Final at Nenagh last Saturday they changed that. They got the upper hand on a strong Galway side who were reigning champions, 0-18 to 1-11
It was an all-round team performance that delivered this first, historic win. Well done to a brilliant group of girls and their management team on a tremendous year.
The Carrigdhoun Players making a major contribution to the victory were, Saoirse McCarthy (Courcey Rovers, Player of the Match, 6 Pts), Sarah Ahern (Ballygarvan, Vice-Captain), Ellen O’Regan (Ballygarvan), Rachel O’Regan (Carrigaline, 2 Pts)
Ciara Murphy (Carrigaline), Michelle Fitzpatrick (Sliabh Rua), Fiona Keating (Courcey Rovers, 2 Pts), Deirdre O’Reilly (Courcey Rovers).
