The well-known and much-loved ‘Catch of the Day’ fish and chip business will be making its way to Carrigaline in the next few months.
Currently operating from a van in Kinsale, the seaside enterprise is now nearly 10 years old and is known on the bridge in Kinsale for its popular, authentic grub.
Two years ago the business was bought by Cathal O’Donovan, who’s originally from Kinsale but now resides with his wife, Tracy, locally in Carrigaline. Ever since then he has been on the lookout for units around Cork, particularly Ballincollig, Douglas and Carrigaline, but nothing suitable ever cropped up.
However, this week it was announced that ‘Catch of the Day’ will be coming to Carrigaline in the near future! Speaking to The Carrigdhoun, Cathal said “We’ll be looking to be in the new premises in the next 5-8 weeks. We are really excited to be coming down to Carrigaline and opening our business to the people here. We’ve had a great two years in Kinsale since we bought it and hopefully we can have similar success in Carrigaline.”
The business hope to employ some local staff to their new unit, which will be located in the Owenabue carpark, where ‘Heaven’s Kitchen’ previously was (next to Ristorante Romano).
Cathal is also in the middle of purchasing a new wagon, and will be trialing their food on the Bridge in Kinsale on Friday, Saturday and Sunday this week.
