Councillor Audrey Buckley elected new Chair of Carrigaline Municipal District

At this week’s May meeting of the Carrigaline Municipal District (MD), Councillor Audrey Buckley (FF) was nominated and elected as the new Chairperson for the district.

Cllr Liam O’Connor (FG) had been acting Chair following the departure of former councillor, Aidan Lombard, who recently stepped away from local politics following a five year-stint shared between the Bandon-Kinsale ward and the Carrigaline Local Electoral Area (LEA).

Cllr O’Connor assumed the role for the last number of weeks and it was he who nominated Cllr Buckley to take up the reigns in a formal position. The proposal was seconded by Cllr Seámus McGrath (FF), and the Crosshaven resident was duly elected as the new Chairperson, until the next AGM.

Cllr Buckley was elected to the Carrigaline MD for the first time in May 2019 at the Local Elections. Before she was voted on to the Council, Audrey had been very active in her community with a number of different groups and projects. She also holds a degree in Community Development from Cork Institute of Technology.

Commenting on her appointment, Audrey told The Carrigdhoun Newspaper, “I am absolutely thrilled to take on this new role as Chair for the Carrigaline Municipal District. I want to thank Cllr O’Connor for nominating me and Cllr McGrath for seconding, I’m really looking forward to the opportunity and to learning from the experience. I just hope that sooner rather than later we can get back to work in person and attend local events when possible.”
