A major spruce up of Crosshaven by the county council leading up to Cork Week 2026 Regatta from July 6th to 10th being hosted by the Royal Cork Yacht Club in Crosshaven this summer was urged by Cllr Audrey Buckley (FF) at the recent meeting of Carrigaline Municipal District (MD).
She suggested a review and programme of works for the relining of roads, repainting of crossings and repair, repainting or replacement of signage in Crosshaven and surrounding areas to ensure road safety, accessibility and a positive experience for residents and visitors during what would be a very busy time leading up and during the bi-annual international sailing event. She also requested repainting of the disabled driver parking bay near the pharmacy.

Cllr Jack White (FG) seconding, said it was a very good motion. ‘Crosshaven is the showcase for tourism in the MD and anything that can be done to give the place a spruce up is a good idea’.
An cathaoirleach Cllr Ben Dalton-O’Sullivan (Ind) concurred, saying it was a huge week for Crosshaven and the MD. Cllr Buckley said there was also the continued growth of numbers visiting at Camden Fort Meagher, Crosshaven to showcase and particularly asked that disabled driver parking bays be repainted.
In a report, acting senior executive engineer Alan Cogan stated: ‘The Town Enhancement Team will examine this and undertake works, subject to funding availability. It should be noted that budgetary constraints will not allow for all works to be undertaken, however as much as possible will be by maximising available resources’.
At the meeting, executive engineer Andrew O’Brien said it was intended to improve the surface by The Oar pub and by the Outdoor Gym and RCYC car park car park. When the roads allocation from the Department of Local Government was announced, the council intended to go to tender. This was welcomed by Cllr Buckley.
Later at the meeting, Cllr Buckley asked that MD discuss various issues such as car parking at Myrtleville, the upcoming casual trading bye-laws and the job remit of soon to be appointed community wardens. She welcomed that an eco-toilet was due to be provided for Carrigaline MD, a facility she had been seeking for a long time and repeated her call for resinstatement of the raised table crossing between Drake’s Point and Brightwater, Crosshaven.
In a report, MD officer Denise Kidney said works at Camden Fort Meagher car park that began last autumn in the existing space would provide 35 car and two bus parking bays, all lined. Two new surfaced car parks would provide an extra 75 bays. The project was due for completion in March.
On a proposal by Cllr Buckley, the MD congratulated Crosshaven Rugby Club on winning the Eddie Buckley Cup with victory over Highfield by 26-10.
