A call for Dock Terrace, Passage West to be entered on the derelict sites register of Cork County Council was proposed by Cllr Marcia D’Alton (Ind) and agreed at the monthly meeting of Carrigaline-Ballincollig Municipal District. ‘It’s boarded up, vacant for over 16 years, the houses are uninhabitable and I’ve had lots of representations from nearby residents who speak about paying the Property Tax and the desolation they have to look at every day.’ The terrace, she stated, was further deteriorating and getting dirtier even though it was painted during the life of the former town council. At one stage, it was thought it would be demolished as part of the major Howard Holdings development on the dockyard site that never transpired. In reply MD officer Mr. Kevin O’Regan said Dock Terrace wasn’t on the derelict sites register. In 2013, works, including painting, were undertaken by the receiver at the time when it was about to be put on the register and the file was closed. Arrangements could be made to have the property inspected again because there was a new owner who could be contacted, even if only to have it cleaned and tidied up. In reply to Cllr Seamus McGrath (FF), Mr. O’Regan said it could qualify for some of the €15,000 recently allocated by the MD to Douglas, Passage West (and possibly Carrigaline) for streetscape painting under the Towns Development Fund. Cllr D’Alton’s motion was adopted.
