Donation To Crosshaven Coast Guard

Donation To Crosshaven Coast Guard

Writes Ray Ryan

On Saturday 24th February a cheque for €700 was presented to Crosshaven Coast Guard, by Margaret, (nee Sheehan, a Crosshaven native), and Tom Fitzgerald, from Stradbally Co Kerry.

The presentation was to acknowledge the efforts of the Crosshaven Coast Guard in the search and rescue for the body of their son Ciaran, who tragically lost his life in a drowning accident in Cork City last April.

At Christmas 2016 Ciaran was instrumental in reforming the Wren Boys, after a 54-year lapse, in his hometown of Stradbally, Castlegregory in Kerry. In memory of Ciaran, Margaret decided she would join the Wren Boys for Christmas 2017 in a fund-raising effort.

The money raised was divided between, Stradbally Community Association, Air Ambulance and Crosshaven Coast Guard.

In accepting the cheque, Victor Shine offered his sympathies to Margaret and Tom on their tragic loss. He assured them that the monies raised would be put to good use in the continuing efforts of their search and rescue duties.
