Dress For Success, Cork Celebrates Its 5th Birthday

By Hosting A Super Stylish Fashion Show On 1st March 2019

On Monday 3rd December 2018 Dress for Success, Cork held an event in The Metropole Hotel, Cork to mark the Charities 5th Birthday. To celebrate they also announced that they will be hosting a Fashion Show event on the 1st March 2019.

The Lord Mayor of Cork, Councillor Mick Finn attended the event and congratulated Dress for Success on the very important difference it makes to women lives, their families and the wider community. He wished us the very best of luck with our fashion show and in securing Corporate sponsorship for this exciting event.

Carmel O’Keeffe, founder Dress for Success, Cork spoke and stressed that we are a not for profit organisation and receive no government funding from the state and currently have not corporate sponsorship. She thanked the small group of unpaid but highly dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers who give of their time and expertise willingly. Carmel stated “Within the last 5 years we have seen 700 clients with a 68% conversion into employment or further education”. Carmel outlined DfS services “We offer coaching, interview skills and CV writing and then we complete the transformation by providing styling and interview appropriate clothing”.

Carmel stressed that Dress for Success still provides a vital service now as it did 5 years ago, despite the improvement in the economy. “We still receive weekly referrals from the Department of Social Protection for those returning to the workforce after a career break and from people who are between contracts”

Dress for Success Cork has ambitious plans to build on the success of the first 5 years. “We see this fashion event as a celebration of our success but also an invitation to businesses and organisations in Cork to partner with us, to come on board for this exciting fashion event and beyond” Carmel said.

Also in attendance was Gillian Hennessy, it was her first official engagement as President of Network Cork and Deirdre Griffin from Cork Chamber of Commerce. Claire Aherne from Assets Model Agency wore a beautiful Ted Baker dress from Itso Me in Douglas.
