Charles Fort is inviting visitors to face their fears and join this year's ‘Gruesome Ghostly Trail’.
As one of the country's largest military installations, the history of Charles Fort ranges from sieges, to fires, and this Halloween, ghostly tales from centuries past will be revealed.
Whether you're a history buff or a thrill-seeker, the gloomy tunnels and old stone walls of this forbidding star-shaped structure have many stories to tell.
Visitors will follow the trail, hunting for eight tags hidden around the vast fort, each with a terrifying tale of unearthly spirits that have roamed Charles Fort for centuries.
If you're brave enough, you can even bring a torch to light up the ancient stone passageways and search for ghastly ghoulish creatures hiding in some of the darkest depths of the fort.
If the autumnal weather or spine-chilling scares leave you shivering, warm up with a cosy cup of coffee from their onsite coffee shop, Lemon Leaf Café.
This frightfully-good event is one of a series of activities taking place at various locations across the country, organised by the Office of Public Works.
Chairman of the OPW, John Conlon, said: “It is great to see such a diverse range of events on offer at a number of OPW locations throughout the country. Families will find plenty to enjoy in the coming weeks, with a range of workshops, tours and other fun activities on offer – there’s truly something for everyone, young and old.”
The ‘Gruesome Ghostly Trail’ will take place from Saturday October 26th to Sunday November 3rd.
With under 12s going free accompanied with an adult, this is a spook-tacular event that won't give your bank account a scare.
Spice up your mid-term with a visit to Charles Fort this October. No pre-booking is required, just show up on site - and bring your wits!
