Has €600,000 Been Wasted In Belgooly & Riverstick?

Water Mains Remain Idle In Belgooly And Riverstick

Writes JJ Hurley

Incredibly, three kilometres of recently laid water mains between Riverstick and Belgooly have remained unused as Irish Water continues to grapple with the upgrading of a reservoir in Riverstick.

The significant works, which were carried out in the summer of 2016, at a cost of what is believed to be in the region of €600,000, were expect to see the end of the village’s hard water issue. However, In the latest statement issued from the company, a spokesperson said: “Irish Water is committed to delivering a new reservoir in Riverstick which will also provide a reliable, high quality water supply for Belgooly.

A preferred tender has been selected and it is expected that the contractor will be appointed shortly, subject to the finalisation of some outstanding issues relating to land acquisition and other matters. We are working to address these issues as quickly as possible and hope that construction will get underway in the early part of this year. We thank the local community for their support and co-operation as we work to deliver this project which will result in a robust and secure future supply of water.”
