Further improvement works by Cork County Council are being carried out at and planned for Fountainstown thanks to scheme funds totalling €255,000, members of Carrigaline Municipal District (MD) were informed at their monthly meeting.
MD officer Carol Conway reported that under ‘Measure 2’ of the 2022 Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS), Fountainstown was awarded €200,000 which must be drawn down by June 2024.

Proposed works included: 1) provision of a pathway/looped walk; 2) information boards on biodiversity; 3) native hedging and bulb planting; 4) a road crossing from the car park to the beach; 5) seating by the beach wall and 6) landscaping and planting at the car park.
Members were told that the road design office was dealing with the walk as well as the crossing for specification and a safety audit.
Ms Conway further stated that €25,000 was awarded under the Disability Participation and Awareness Fund for a new ramp, works on which should be under way shortly.
She stressed that the MD worked closely with Fountainstown Community Association and recommended that body apply for an amenity grant for showers.
She stated that €30,000 was allocated for works at the seaside resort under ‘Measure 1’ (2021) of ORIS and used to install a new bike repair station alongside the bicycle parking bay. Work on the scenic cliff trail including clearance of vegetation was completed and improvements, including painting, would be carried out to the public toilets at the back of the car park before the summer.
