Kinsale Cow Turns Up On Waterford Beach

Writes JJ Hurley

James O’Regan, Castlepark, Kinsale, was shocked recently when he received a phone call from an animal disposal company in Waterford that his absent cow had turned up on a beach in Tramore, County Waterford.

Mr. O’Regan had reported the unfortunate animal missing a little over two weeks previously, when he’d noticed the cow A.W.O.L. from the herd, after he’d moved the cattle from one location to another pasture.

Housed on a field facing onto Sandycove Island, near the mouth of Kinsale Harbour, it’s believed the unfortunate beast must have strayed over the cliff, after Mr. O’Regan had just removed the temporary fencing, during the transfer of the cattle to a different pasture.

Still left nonplussed by the whole episode, Mr. O’Regan said: “It is almost impossible to figure out where the cow entered the water, there was an old bale of hay near the cliff edge and the possibility is it attracted the cow. “However, there were no signs as to what exactly happened and it remains a mystery.”
