Kinsale: Familiar Face Features In Advert Writes J.J Hurley

Many viewers of the small screen may have noticed a familiar face from Clontead featuring on SuperValu’s latest advert to promote fish. Yes indeed there is no need for a double-take on the viewers part, as it’s Tracy Hurley, who is Smith’s Supervalu Kinsale’s resident fishmonger, who is featuring in the supermarket giant’s latest add campaign to encourage customers to choose fish for their shopping basket. Taking her recently acquired fame in her stride, Tracey, who joined the staff at Ireland’s number one SuperValu in 2014, said: “I initially thought the piece to camera was for a local in-store Facebook campaign.” However, she subsequently discovered that she’s now featuring along with one of Ireland’s leading TV chef’s, Martin Shanahan, in promoting what is fast becoming a very healthy option on the Irish dinner table. Having initially trained in the checkouts and cash office, Tracey transferred to the meat counter, where she soon developed a keen interest in the fish counter. A number of years later and having completed a series of courses, the decision to choose Tracey to front the national campaign to promote fish as an important alternative to meat is very clear. Outside of pointing out the obvious as an Island nation, Tracey is quick to single-out the particular health benefits of what is freshly caught off our shores and delivered without delay to the SuperValu stores nationwide. Yes, she admits people still have their reservations, but the SuperValu initiative to introduce cook bags means that the odour often associated with the product has been removed as one of the major obstacles in putting off customers purchasing fish. Having featured on the advert, Tracey is hoping that more customers will take the opportunity to ask her about fish and how best to make it a part of their diet, when they visit the store.
