Local Couple Fundraise For Kolkata Charity Trip

Local couple Samantha Doyle, Monkstown and Daniel Beausang, Carrigaline are hosting a Charity Table Quiz at The South County, Douglas Village on Wednesday 27th June, as they raise funds for a 6-week trip to Kolkata in 2019, to work with underprivileged and slum children.

The trip itself will begin in May 2019 and will last for six weeks, with all proceeds from the table quiz benefiting the poverty-stricken children they will be working with in Kolkata.

Samantha has been to India once before, during secondary school and says, “my trip there fostered a need to return and help the underprivileged children and adults who I met there.” She continued, “This time we will travel to Kolkata and will stay there for 6 weeks in volunteer apartments. I will work with underprivileged children in the slums, helping them to develop their English and also will act as a sports coach. Another thing I will be doing is running educational workshops for the teachers over there, as I am currently completing a degree in Early Years and Childhood Education.”

Daniel, whose family, the Harrington’s, have been settled in Carrigaline for generations is a volunteer with the Order of Malta Carrigaline Unit and has been volunteering with them since he was 14 years old.

Daniel will be spending his time putting his medical experience to use, by working in the Hope Hospital which provides healthcare to many underprivileged slum children and adults alike. He will also be working in the night ambulance, an ambulance which patrols the streets at night to provide emergency medical care and also to help children in potentially dangerous situations. Daniel will also be acting as a sports coach while there.
