Local St Patrick’s Day Parades in Carrigaline, Crosshaven, Kinsale as well as Cork City have been cancelled in line with Government guidelines due to the spread of Covid-19.
The decision not to proceed with parades has been widely welcomed by the general public and health experts alike.
A statement from the committee of The Carrigaline Parade said; “The Organising Committee of the Carrigaline St. Patrick’s Day Parade 2020 has decided to cancel the Carrigaline Parade that was due to be held on March 17th, due to the evolving circumstances around the Covid-19 Virus. The Committee had been monitoring Guidelines from Government and Public Health Authorities. The Committee would like to thank all the Community in Carrigaline and surrounding areas, who have supported our efforts to run the Parade this year and to all the local groups who had committed to taking part. We hope to have a bigger and better parade next year. The Safety and Health of all our local community is paramount and this decision is taken with that in mind.”
At this point in time, The Carrigdhoun Newspaper does not believe any of the local parades will be re-scheduled.
On Thursday morning, there was an announcement from Taoiseach Leo Varadkar that schools, colleges and child care facilities, will be shut down until March the 29th.
