A dolphin was found dead on Fountainstown Beach earlier this week.
The incident - which was reported first on social media - saw the mammal washed ashore on Fountainstown Beach in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Locals have described the situation as shocking and upsetting.
The dolphin was found well above the tide line, between the slipway and the first stairs at the popular attraction.
The Carrigdhoun Newspaper can confirm that the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group have been contacted and are currently dealing with the situation.
This is an issue which has been a repeated problem in Cork's coastal areas. Last February, seven dolphins and a sperm whale were found dead along the Cork coastline.
