Lusitania: The Next Chapter comes to Kinsale

(JJ Hurley)

The future of the Lusitania Museum at the Old Head of Kinsale will be explored at a special evening of art and history at St Catherine’s Cultural Centre on Thursday, November 5th.
Organised by the Lusitania Museum/Old Head Signal Tower Heritage CLG, Lusitania: The Next Chapter will feature artist Áine Andrews, maritime historian Mike Brady and the launch of a new fundraising campaign video.
Áine will present A Portrait of Hugh Lane: A Life Cut Short, examining the life of the Cork-born art dealer and philanthropist who died aboard the Lusitania in 1915. A graduate of Crawford College of Art and Design, she presents Famous Paintings and their Hidden Histories at Triskel Arts Centre and is the author and co-author of several art education textbooks.
Mike Brady, founder of Oceanliner Designs, will travel from Melbourne, Australia. His maritime history platform has almost one million YouTube subscribers and more than 200 million views, using historical research, animation and 3D modelling to bring ocean liners, including RMS Lusitania, to life. See oceanlinerdesigns.com.
The event will also provide an update on the proposed museum, which has been almost two decades in development. Following the restoration of the Old Head Signal Tower in 2015 and the creation of the Lusitania Memorial Garden in 2017, planning permission has been secured for a dedicated museum.
The project now faces the challenge of raising the capital and match funding required to proceed.
A new video produced by Made to Measure Films will feature committee volunteers and relatives of those aboard the Lusitania, highlighting the community’s dedication and the families’ enduring connections.
The event begins at 7.30pm, with doors opening at 7pm. Tickets cost €20 and are available at the online booking page.
