Momentum Builds For CHASE

Incinerator Decision Won’t Be Accepted

Writes Jack White

Momentum is continuing to build for CHASE (Cork Harbour Alliance for a Safe Environment) as the group tries to raise the funds necessary for a Judicial Review of An Bord Pleanala’s decision to grant permission for a dangerous waste incinerator in Ringaskiddy.

Fundraisers, public meetings and donations have been coming with great pace in recent weeks all over Cork, since the absurd decision was made, against a swell of local opposition, by the Dublin based, Bord Pleanala.

CHASE estimate they’ll need between €150-000 to €200,000 initially to fund the Judicial Review.

At time of going to press, over €63,000 had been donated via the CHASE Go Fund Me page, this is added to several offline donations via the CHASE Bank Account, fundraisers, including Funkstock in Fountainstown which raised over €8,000, a Spinathon in Crosshaven which raised over €5,000 and many, many more events including coffee mornings, non-uniform days, table quizzes, film screenings and so on.

The publicity around the fight back against the incinerator is also growing with virtually all local and national politicians in the area speaking in support of the community as well as elected members of Cork County Council wearing anti-incinerator t-shirts, developed by the #CrossWomen Group, to their County Council meeting on Monday in County Hall.

There are a huge amount of fundraising events planned in the coming weeks, some of which have been announced.

With a number of fundraisers, public meetings and events having taken place in the last number of weeks for CHASE, momentum is building to fund the costly Judicial Review, to fight the incinerator in Ringaksiddy.
