The opening of the ballot boxes in Mallow today has produced some sensational results, as the new candidates in the election are making the early running in the Bandon/Kinsale Municipal Area Election.
While there is no surprise in veteran Cllr Alan Coleman toping the poll, the following three candidates, John Collins (Indo Ire), John Michael Foley (FG) and Ann Bambury (SD), all look destined to take a seat.
The Collins machine looks to have swung into action in the Bandon/Kinsale Area. Mr Collins is on 16%, just behind Cllr Alan Coleman on 17%
Fine Gael will be pleased with John Michael Foley's performance on 15%, but Ann Bambury's outing looks to be the headline, as she looks sure to take a seat, along with Cllr Gillian Coughlan.
The final seat looks to be an absolute cliffhanger as Cllrs Sean O'Donovan (FF), and Marie O'Sullivan (FG) are set to fight it out with former TD Margaret Murphy O'Mahony (FF) and Ger Seamen (FG).
Attention will now turn to Clonakilty tonight, when the count will officially commence and the first result is expected some time before midnight.
