A group from Passage West who meet weekly for a game of 7-a-side decided to run a 11 V 11 tournament as a Christmas special. The tradition started in 2023, and the group raised €3,200 for a charity close to their hearts in Pieta House. It continued in 2024 when they raised €3,350 for the Passage West PACE Centre.

This year, they look to continue the tradition and the charity for this year is again the Passage West PACE Centre. The PACE Centre is a local charity that caters for the needs of the elderly in the community and surrounding area. They deliver nearly 200 meals a week to those within the Lower Harbour community. The service is run by volunteers who prepare the meals and deliver them to the homes of the elderly.

Cllr Eoghan Fahy said “As someone who is actively involved in the PACE centre and the Tiki Taka group, this fundraiser will be greatly appreciated by both the volunteers and those who are participants in the various services from the PACE Centre, such as the art classes, indoor bowling, toddler groups, Irish dancing classes, and Meals-on-Wheels. The Meals-on-Wheels service has been volunteer-run in Passage West for over 46 years now, and it’s remarkable to see people still involved today who were involved in the setting up of the service originally. This fundraiser will provide a great sense of security for the committee as we head into 2026 and the increased cost of running the PACE centre due to the rising cost of living, and as we, along with Cork County Council, are looking to improve the facilities across the PACE Centre, which is located within the heart of our community.

Passage Soccer Club is again generously giving us the use of the main pitch free of charge for the games, with all money raised from participants, spectators and the public going directly to the PACE Centre. It’s fantastic to see the community spirit among the Tiki Taka group and their willingness to give something back to the community. The group of locals, ranging from people aged 20 to 40 years of age, that get together weekly for a game of soccer just to keep in touch with each other and take a break from everyday life. The backing the fundraiser received in recent years is astonishing from our local businesses and the community. We hope to see the same again this year. We are looking forward to the games on the day and the celebrations after, while supporting our local pubs in the process. The group's total raised is at €6,550 in two years.

The fundraiser is at 2 PM on Tuesday, December 23rd, in Passage Soccer Club, and there is an active GoFundMe page that you can find on any of my social media pages.
