Proposal For New Crossing – Carrigaline

Proposal For New Crossing At Ballyfeard Road, Carrigaline

Writes Leo McMahon

Funding of €10,000 has been provided for a pedestrian crossing on the R611 Ballyfeard Road, Carrigaline between Wrenville and Upper Kilmoney Road, members of Cork County Council’s Bandon-Kinsale Municipal District (MD) were informed at their recent meeting.

Replying to Cllr Aidan Lombard (FG), executive engineer Mark Daly said it was also intended to improve the surface from Cogan’s Corner to the co-op entrance on Lower Kilmoney Road.

Removal of overgrowth on the footpath along Lower Kilmoney Road was welcomed by Cllr Lombard who asked that the road surface be extended to the kerb on the main road near the entrance to Kilmoney Heights because it was unsightly and regularly cut up. He previously requested 50kph speed limit reminder signs and removal of branches obscuring public lighting along Lower Kilmoney Road.

Cllr. Lombard repeated the call for an extension of the riverside crash barrier on Ballea Road, Carrigaline.  He was told it had been referred to the council’s road design office.

In reply to a motion from Cllr Lombard, staff officer Claire O’Donovan said there was extensive green space for well over 200 plots at St Patrick’s Cemetery, Nohoval. Only two were purchased in 2015, three in 2016 and six last year.

Members were circulated with an update on the MD drainage programme and told that a concrete channel and new grating had been installed outside the cemetery at Ballyfeard. A new culvert crossing at Belgooly had been completed.

Senior executive officer MacDara o h-Ici, in reply to Cllr Lombard, said the council’s property section would be contacted regarding the land issue and mapping of a footpath in Minane Bridge.

Members were told there were 86 applications for Community Grants, up 20 on 2017. Cllr Lombard asked that Crosshaven be allocated €16,500 for Christmas lights.

Cllr Lombard repeated his call for an official from Bus Eireann to attend a Bandon-Kinsale MD meeting, the same as done for Carrigaline-Ballincollig MD.
