Rachel Thompson claimed ladies Golf’s Connacht Senior Championship last week after finishing +3 for the 36-hole tournament. Carrigaline’s Thompson shot an opening round of 80 on the Par 74 course in Westport, County Mayo, meaning that she was six over for the day.
That first round saw her placed just three shots off the lead going into the final 18 holes, with many players finding it difficult to handle the course.
The Cork Golf Club member, who is currently abroad at the University of Stirling, subsequently went on to blow the rest of the field away as she shot an incredible 71, or -3 to give her a total combined score of +3, an incredible 11 strokes ahead of her nearest competitor.
Rachel had been playing off scratch at the beginning of the tournament, but following her two impressive scores she is now likely to be playing off +1. Congratulations Rachel!
