Shaw family represent Passage at Scottish National Championships
Last weekend the Shaw family consisting of Dad, Son and Daughter traveled to Glasgow to represent Passage West School of Taekwondo at the ITF Scottish National Championships held at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility with all 3 securing podium finishes.

The competition was over 2 days with 1600 competitors taking part. Day 1 saw both Joey and Kirsten take to the mats with Kirsten up first for Patterns advancing from the preliminary round 5-0 she bowed out in the Bronze Medal match 3-2. Up next for Kirsten was Special Technique and she was very unlucky not to medal after being involved in a jump off with 5 other competitors.
Kirsten then competed at sparring and after advancing from her Q-Final bout to secure a Bronze Medal she went down 3-1 to her Scottish opponent in the Silver Medal bout.
Joey was up next continuing his impressive form of late. In a stacked Patterns section of 26 competitors Joey claimed a Silver medal after a close Final. Up next was Special Technique with 17 competitors in the category and after some impressive jumping by all competitors the height was raised a 6th time to 2.3 meters and with Joey the only competitor to hit the target he was declared the Scottish National Champion.
In sparring Joey had 3 hard fights against all Scottish Opponents winning each by unanimous decisions to take another Gold Medal and the Scottish National Title.
Sunday saw Dad Jason compete, in Patterns Jason narrowly lost out on the Bronze Medal going down 3-2 to his opponent. Jason then competed at Special Technique winning a Silver Medal. Finally, in Sparring Jason won unanimously in the Semi-Final before a hard fought Final where he claimed the Gold and the Scottish National Title on a split decision. It was a great weekend for the Shaw family and Passage West School of Taekwondo taking home 6 medals from 3 competitors.
