Homes Under Construction At Kilnagleary, Carrigaline
Writes Leo McMahon
Work is under construction on the first phase of 49 social houses at Kilnagleary, Carrigaline at a cost of just over €14 million, members of Cork County Council’s Southern Committee were informed at their recent meeting.
Stage two (design) of phases two and three, comprising 38 homes at Kilnagleary at an estimated cost of €9.8m was approved last June. Phase four comprising 15 dwellings is at the design stage. The site is located behind Edmond Rice College, Educate Together and the Tennis Club off the Ferney Road near Dandy Bridge and the relief road.
At a recent Carrigaline-Ballincollig Municipal District meeting, Cllr Michael Frick Murphy (SF) had a motion requesting the housing department to include Passage West and Monkstown in its Vacant Homes Action Plan (VHAP).
The VHAP currently involves a survey of Ballincollig, Bantry, Newmarket and Youghal and he was told it wasn’t feasible at present to extend it beyond these. According to the 2016 Census, the council house vacancy rate is estimated at 13.2%.
