The Carrigaline Choral Group Beat Covid 19 Shutdown
Writes Mary Malone Founder/Secretary
Since last March like so many choirs around the world The Carrigaline Choral Group have had to forego their Thursday Night Rehearsals, but despite this they have found a path to “Live Rehearsals” online.
All thanks to Sing Ireland/ Cumann Náisiúnta na gCór Webinars to keep choirs updated on Singing safely during the Pandemic. The technology to allow choirs to have “Live Rehearsal” is a system called “Jamulus” in conjunction with Zoom. Jamulus is for Audio (sound only) and Zoom is for Visual.
Nás Na Rí Singers have been using this system very successfully since April and have given us tremendous help and support in setting up the system. It has been a long nine months without Choir. It is well known that singing improves both mental and physical health and in these dark times we need it more than ever.
There is however a cost to setting up Jamulus as each choir member needs a set of equipment at a cost of €80. While this may seem a lot this system is not just for when we have a Pandemic. It is a very versatile system with many uses, should Choir finds themselves with no rehearsal venue, inclement weather and choir members cannot travel, a section needs extra help with their line on a night other than rehearsal night, a few members cannot make rehearsal they can come in on Jamulus and join us live. You can also make a recording with this system so choir members can recap on the rehearsal. All this can be done online from the comfort of your own home.
Thank you to Thermo Fisher Scientific for their donation towards helping us setup this system to keep choral singing alive. It is hoped that in the future and when it is safe to do so we can sing our thanks to you all.
If you are a lover of choral music and would like to sponsor a set of equipment for a choir member/s we would be delighted to hear from you.
