Upcoming Changes To Carrigaline & Crosshaven Bus Services

Upcoming Changes To Carrigaline & Crosshaven Bus Services In early 2014, Bus Éireann, in conjunction with the National Transport Authority, carried out a review of public transport services along the Balllincollig – City Centre – Carrigaline – Crosshaven Corridor. As a result, Route 220: Ballincollig – City Centre – Carrigaline – Crosshaven was introduced on the 31st August 2014. Following an initial period of confusion and significant delays, many of these early problems were dealt with and the numbers using the services increased steadily. However there have been persistent complaints regarding the sheer amount of time it takes Crosshaven commuters to reach the city centre, with anecdotal evidence suggesting that 50 minutes to one hour, to travel a distance of just over 12 miles, (most of which is outside the city limits), is not unusual. Delays are caused because of the circuitous nature of the route from Crosshaven, which at the moment sees all buses travelling left at the bridge and going around the southern part of the town via Liosbourne before returning to the town centre. The bus then continues on to Douglas, via Maryborough Hill, before travelling on to Ballincollig, with just one city centre stop on the Grand Parade. Throughout the day, Crosshaven commuters endure significant delays thanks to heavy traffic in both Carrigaline and Douglas but from April 3rd a new bus service should significantly improve journey times for these users and also for Carrigaline commuters, who will be offered a more frequent service. The main features of the revised services are as follows: The level of service between the City Centre and Ballincollig/Carrigaline will be increased to 3 buses an hour between 06:30hrs to 18:30hrs, Monday to Saturday. The new Route 220X services will operate from Crosshaven and Fountainstown via Carrigaline, Carrs Hill, the City Centre, Carrigrohane Road and Ballincollig Village to EMC/Grange Manor, Ovens. Route 220X will not serve Douglas Village or Model Farm Rd – (Route 220X passengers for Douglas must change from 220X to 220 at Carrigaline) Route 220 will operate from Carrigaline via Douglas Village and the City Centre to Ballincollig/EMC, Monday to Saturday, (not serving Crosshaven/Fountainstown). However, Route 220 will continue to serve Crosshaven/Fountainstown on Sundays. At the time of writing, the new timetables are not available.
