Update Sought On Carrigaline Education Campus Writes Jack White

Following an update sought by Michael McGrath TD on the status of the Carrigaline Education Campus at Ballinrea, Carrigaline, the Chief Executive of the Cork Education and Training Board has replied, stating that detailed design of the three schools is currently being carried out and that the CETB is tendering for a contractor to carry out enabling works on the site.

Planning permission for the education campus was approved by An Bord Pleanala in September 2016 and with three schools, Sonas, Gaelscoil Charraig Uí Leighin and Gaelcholáiste Charraig Uí Leighin planned to go on the site, parents, students and residents in the area have been keen to find out the progress of the project.

The enabling works that will take place once a contractor has been put in place include: . Site enclosure – permanent fencing to enclose the site on 3 sides, with temporary hoarding and gates on the side road . Top soil removal and retention on site to form archaeological and other landscaping . Formation of landscape berms around known archaeological features . ESB 38kv and 10kv cable diversions . Additional site investigation works

According to the CETB in their response to Michael McGrath’s contact, “It is intended that these works will be carried out in October/November.”

Michael McGrath, updating followers on facebook on Monday said, “The letter does not specify a timeframe for the commencement of construction of the schools. Therefore, I have put down a further Dáil Question to the Minister for Education & Skills seeking an up-to-date timeline for the completion of the project.”
