Ballygarvan’s Izzy O’Regan Ready for Titanic Galway Clash

Ballygarvan’s Izzy O’Regan steps out on Croke Park tomorrow as the Cork Senior Camogie side seeks to bring back the O'Duffy Cup to Leeside.

Looking to avenge last year’s defeat against a Galway side who are also looking to complete a football and camogie double, the Rebelettes can expect a titanic struggle.

Expected to be at the forefront of Cork’s efforts to dethrone the ladies from the West will be Ballygarvan’s Izzy O’Regan.

Back from a year on the sidelines after a serious knee injury, O’Regan has again made the corner-back position her own.

A quiet and reserved person, Izzy lets her hurley do the talking on the pitch.

It’s an opinion shared by Ollie Hallahan from Ballygarvan.

‘She is a very private person, but she is very committed to the cause,’ he said.

‘She trains very hard, always does the right thing, and never does anything by half measures.’

It is very evident around Ballygarvan, where she has a huge influence, as seen last year when they were just pipped by Ballincollig in a replay of the Premier Intermediate Camogie Final.

While Izzy was absent from the starting line-up, her presence around the team was very evident.

Indeed, her comeback from her injury to play at the highest level shows her commitment to the sport.

Having played at underage level with Cork, and for MTU as a student, she’ll be hoping to add to her collection of senior All-Ireland medals on Sunday.

Of course, for the Ballygarvan club, it’s a big day to have a player from their club representing them in the senior decider, following in the tradition of other players.

Both their social media platforms and grounds were adorned with messages of support for both her and the team’s success.

Also lining out with the Cork team is Courcey Rovers' Saoirse McCarthy—a fantastic achievement for the Carrigdhoun division to have both players in the hunt for All-Ireland glory on Sunday.

Cork will enter the game as slight favourites, but that is always a dangerous tag, as the senior hurlers recently found to their cost.

However, Izzy and her colleagues will not be concerned about what went before, but rather concentrate on their own jobs and give the utmost respect to a very talented Galway side.

Throw-in for the game is at 4:15 pm and it is live on RTÉ Two.
