Carrigaline eased past Ballingeary in the McCarthy Insurance Group Division 2 game at Crosshaven Road on Saturday.
A game that was effectively over at half-time, as Carrigaline had made full use of a strong wind and led by 0-22 to 0-3.
Credit to Carrigaline as they kicked a total of six three-point scores in the first half, with Coakley landing three, Andrews two and Landers one.
For Carrigaline, who were without the services of a number of their regulars, it was an opportunity for others to step up, but it was another familiar face who opened the scoring as Jack McCarthy got the hosts underway.
In fairness to the visitors, they replied almost immediately as Conchúir Ó Lionsigh opened his side’s account.
However, it was the home side who took control of the game as Niall Coakley kicked two two-pointers in the opening ten minutes, with Carrigaline moving out in front by 0-10 to 0-1.
Not to be outdone, Sean Andrews delivered two scores valued at four points in quick succession, while Eoghan Landers also contributed to Carrigaline’s tally of 0-16 to 0-1 on 16 minutes.
The Muskerry outfit never conceded defeat and two scores from Donagh Shortain and Ó Lionsigh reduced the deficit to 0-16 to 0-3 on 22 minutes.
From there to the break, normal service resumed as Carrigaline added six points to their tally, including a brace of two-pointers from Landers and Coakley, as the home side went in at the break leading 0-22 to 0-3.
Any expected comeback from the visitors never materialised, as the Carrigdhoun side were in no mood to let their rivals back into the contest, with Kevin O’Reilly hitting two early second-half points.
Ballingeary’s Ó Lionsigh was leading his side’s charge as he delivered three points to at least give the Muskerry side a chink of light, leaving the score at 0-24 to 0-6 by the 40th minute.
With both sides emptying their benches, the game had lost whatever competitive edge it had, as Ryan Delaney, who worked hard throughout the hour, deservedly kicked Carrigaline’s seventh two-pointer, with the hosts reaching a tally of 0-27 to 0-6 on 47 minutes.
From there to the finish, Ballingeary added four points, all from Ó Lionsigh, as Carrigaline secured the all-important league points.
